On Wednesday December 24th, over 100 people rallied in front of the Court of Appeal. The group was made of community members, family and relatives of the detained land rights activists.
Members of the group were allowed to enter the Court of Appeal at around 8:30am to deliver a petition urging that the trials of the detained activists be expedited. The activists are currently detained in CC1 and CC2; including 8 women in CC2 that are currently staging a hunger strike since December 10th.
Court officials affirmed that Venerable Seng Hai, who is detained in CC1, and 10 women in CC2 will be tried at 2pm on January 22nd 2015. The peaceful assembly came to a close without any incident with the police and security guards that were deployed onsite.
