Palm Sugar Projects: a different secenario (available in Kampot ONLY)

Normally STT would not approach a community with things to ‘offer’. However in our daily work we inevitably come across families and individuals who are in particularly dire need either through illness or incapacity. At the same time we see that there are many tourists/visitors who would like to offer a little of their time and resources to benefit people such as this directly. The Palm Sugar projects joins these two groups in the hope of benefiting both parties.

How many people can we cater for?
We would like to keep groups to a maximum of 10 people. Even in this situation we may have to divide the group into 2 or 3. For groups of more than 2 we need at least one month’s notice.
What projects will volunteers be involved in?
We have a list of priority families and individuals that require assistance ranging from basic medical supplies and materials to construction of a basic shelter. Above all we hope you can offer your encouragement and energy and the time to sit and listen. Sometimes it is not possible to get groups as fully involved as they would like and we apologise up front for this – it is tough to balance the need for durable construction with the need to get everyone involved. Even if you feel you have not contributed a huge amount the key thing is simply your presence and this is always hugely valued by the families. We have researched each family/individual and will organise local technical assistance. More often than not the project can not be fully completed in the time of the visit but STT will ensure that each project is satisfactorily completed.

What does STT require from me/us?
In addition to your time (can be a half day to 2 days max) we require a contribution of 400US$ per group of which will be split between the family/individual (250$ approx. for basic shelter) and a contribution to STT (150$ approx) which will be used entirely for STT activities.
What to bring?
Sun hat, sun cream and lots of water. A raincoat if it’s raining (which it often does in Kampot). If we are working on repairs then old clothes will be needed.
