About 500 people including youth, community activists, monks attended the World Environmental Day celebrated on Monday 05 June 2106 under the theme “Forests and Rivers are the life.” The main purpose of organizing this event is to raise public awareness about the importance of environment and the factors affecting the resources of the rivers and forests in the country. Indeed deforestation is the main cause of environmental impact in the country such as climate change.
The event was divided into two sections. In the morning, it was celebrated by using indoor activities such as panel discussion and message of heroes Forestry and Environment. In the evening, the event was organized at Freedom Park where participants had opportunity to see the painting exhibition, listening to tradition music (chapey), and march around to demand for the release of environmental activists who have been detained in Koh Kong provincial prisons for months.
