Due to increase of cars and motorcycles (about 300,000 cars and 1,000,000 motorcycles in Phnom Penh today), City Hall has launched three bus lines. The bus is a more sustainable form of transport for the city because it reduces traffic accidents, congestion, and environmental pollution. The three city bus lines are:
Line one: It started running on September 1st, 2014, and operates from 5:30am to 8:30pm. It departs from Kilometer No 9 on National Road No 05 a goes to the Old Stadium Monument. Then it goes down Monivong Blvd to Monivong Flyover Bridge, and then takes National Road N0 1 until Boeung Chhouk Bus Station, then returns the same way. This line has 67 stops.
Line two: Started running on September 7th, 2014, and operates from 5:30am to 8:30pm. It departs from the Night Market on the Preachsisovath Blvd to Chroy Changva Bridge, and then drives past the Old Stadium Monument, street No 70, street No 273, Toul Kork Channel, Kim El Soung Blvd, Bokor Traffic Light, Monivong Blvd, and straight to National Road No 2 until Takao monument, then returns the same way. This line has 68 stops.
Line three: Started running on September 15th, 2014, and operates from 5:00am to 8:30pm and starts from the Night Market on the street 106, then goes on Norodom Blvd, street No 130, Phsar Thmey Market, Kampuchea Krom Blvd, across the 7 Makara Flyover Bridge, Russian Blvd, Phnom Penh-International Airport, and stops at Choam Choa monument, then returns. This line has 49 stops.
According to the City Hall spokesman, the government has acquired 45 city buses for the three lines. The first line has 19 buses, the second line has 18, and the third line has 8. In addition, he claimed that the bus fare is 1,500 riel per person; however, monks, disabled people, the elderly, and students are free.
In short, there are three city bus lines running with over 160 stops throughout the city.
