- Introduction and Background
Founded in 2005, Sahmakum Teang Tnaut Organization (STT) is a Cambodian urban land and housing rights NGO. “Teang Tnaut” means “Palm Leaves” and palm leaves are used by poor communities, to build roofs, and walls for their houses. This simplistic name was chosen to forever remind STT that its work serves the poorest members of society. STT starting as a small NGO that focused on technical upgrades in poor communities but over the past decade, many communities have been affected by development, land transfers, and evictions. As a result, STT has since grown to produce community maps, research, and advocacy in order to achieve its goal of helping poor communities realize their rights to land and housing.
STT is seeking an external consultant to provide photography training and organize a photo exhibition after training sections on photography. The exhibition will display photos collected from photography trainees. The photos related urban development will be showcased in person and on online platforms in order to raise public awareness about living conditions and challenges faced by urban poor communities.
- Objective
The purpose of this consultancy is to provide trainings on photography to 20 participants and coordinate the exhibition. The exhibition will illustrate the living conditions and challenges of urban poor communities in person and on social media platforms.
- Methods and Tools
- The consultant can work from anywhere and has flexible hours.
- The consultant may visit the urban poor communities in or near Phnom Penh targeted by STT with STT’s staff if necessary.
- The consultant can communicate verbally or through any channel to advise the photo exhibition team on any process.
- The photos must be original and have proper attribution.
- The consultant will develop the full work plan and timeline, which will be approved by the STT team.
- Photos that violate children’s rights will be rejected.
- Expected Outcome and Deliverable
The consultant will provide the following services to STT:
- Logistic arrangement and facilitation at least four workshops, each spanning two days, on photography techniques, which will be attended by 15 – 20 participants
- Take the lead and coordinate field practices to urban poor communities in Phnom Penh and, if necessary, outside the city
- Advice and select the best 35 photos from trainees. The photos will be used for the exhibition
- Provide at least 20 high quality photos taken by herself/himself for the exhibition
- Supporting and advising the STT team on the process of the photo exhibition, including selecting photos, editing, writing photo description, planning, and decorating.
- Providing more photos or visiting the communities to take more photos for a better event if needed.
- Required qualifications of the Consultant
STT is looking for a consultant with the following qualifications:
- Experience as a trainer of photography skills
- Has good communication
- Has their own materials for conducting training and producing photos
- Fulfils all obligations to gender sensitivity and zero tolerance for sexual harassment
- Ability to adhere to deadlines and flexibility.
- Support team from STT
The consultant will work closely with the Land and Housing Rights Project Manager, Community ICT and Media Manager, and Human Resource and Admin Manager, and relevant staff to facilitate this consultancy.
- Duration and Place of Work
This consultancy will commence as soon as possible, and the duration of the contract will be 60-day from the start date. Specific duration will be stated in the service agreement once the consultancy is offered.
The event can be displayed from May to June 2025 with a maximum of 2 weeks to 6 weeks.
- Consultancy Fee
The budget is in competitive rate. The consultant is advised to breakdown the proposed budget which includes consultancy fee, the cost of training/workshop and field trip.
