Joint Press Release: Celebration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence under the topic “Non-Violence against Women and Girls for Economy and Social Justice”

Phnom Penh, November 24, 2023

We, a group of 21 civil society organizations (CSOs) including associations, unions, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs)* working to promote labor rights, women’s rights, and gender equality in Cambodia, are pleased to announce our commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence 2023 (hereinafter 16 Days Campaign) under the topic “Non-Violence against Women and Girls for Economy and Social Justice”.

This celebration aims to raise public awareness about the 16 Days Campaign, to allow activists and women human rights defenders (WHRDs) to raise the challenges that they have faced while using their legitimate rights and gather to voice their messages, to review and reflect the demands of the WHRDs from various sectors or rights that have put forward and draw attention to the matters that have been occurring to women and girls, and to urge the government to strictly uphold human rights for WHRDs and effectively address these issues.

Please be informed about this event and join us in celebrating through the following online and offline activities:

  • On November 25, 29, 30, 2023 and December 08, 2023, we will host four radio talk shows and/or Facebook lives under different topics.
  • From November 25, 2023 to December 02, 2023, we will organize an online quiz focusing on the theme of our 16 Days Campaign.
  • On November 25, 2023, we will post a frame on Facebook for its users to add it to their Facebook profiles.
  • From November 26, 2023 to December 02, 2023, we will publish seven short subsequent videos with a countdown to alert the date of the open-space celebration of the 16 Days Campaign including the demands for women and girls.
  • On November 27, 2023, we will release our joint statement outlining the demands and resolutions for the Cambodian government to address the challenges and issues faced by women and girls.
  • On December 03, 2023, we will publish a video called “Women’s Rights in Social Engagement and Advocacy”.
  • On the morning of December 03, 2023, we will conduct an open-space event for 500 participants. The topic of this event will be “Non-Violence against Women and Girls for Economy and Social Justice”.
  • From December 03, 2023 to December 10, 2023, we will continue publishing subsequent videos that include other demands for women and girls.
